Solution: Ensure that Google Analytics web property ID in the Google Analytics JavaScript on your page matches the Google Analytics web property ID generated in your Analytics website profile. The web property ID is used to associate the Google Analytics request to a specific Analytics website profile.įailing to properly set the Google Analytics web property ID will prevent pageviews from associating to your Analytics website profile. I'm not seeing any data in google analytics, and when I use the Legacy Google Tag Assistant for testing analytics.js, I get the "Invalid or missing web property ID" error The Google Analytics web property ID is not properly set within the Google Analytics JavaScript. Well, it appears that adding the new `G-` tag to the old analytics code does not actually work. Sometimes disabling the tag manager addon will help resolve the connecting problem.

This guy has a good video explaining all this with step by step instructions on how to add the new GA4 property and add it to your Tag Manager: However, all NEW properties created - even a new property on an established account using UA - will not have an option for UA, only GA4. If you are using Google Tag Manager you can create a tag to link the GA4 property to the site using UA. As I understand it you don't have to replace Universal Analytics with GA4. My guess is one day they will require you to 'upgrade' and ditch UA. It's more like adding a new option for tracking. It's not upgrade as in replace what is there, like, say Drupal does.

Visit the property and you will see an option to upgrade. On existing sites you can "upgrade" to a GA4 property to run alongside your UA property.
